Eastman’s dreadnought range stretches from affordable PCH models to all-solid Traditional Series guitars and higher-spec Thermo-Cure instruments. The useful way to choose is not by staring at model numbers until they become hieroglyphics, but by deciding what construction, price and specification you actually need.

If budget matters most

The PCH1-D and PCH2-D are the obvious starting point. Both use a solid thermo-cured Sitka spruce top but laminated back and sides. The PCH2-D changes the back and side material to rosewood laminate and adds a gloss top.

If you want all-solid construction

The E1D is the lowest-priced dreadnought in this group with solid back and sides. It uses solid sapele behind a thermo-cured Sitka top and keeps the finish satin. See our PCH1-D vs E1D comparison for the construction step in detail.

If you want the higher-spec Traditional Series route

The E10D Thermo-Cure and E20D Thermo-Cure both use solid thermo-cured Adirondack spruce tops, hand-carved scalloped X bracing, gloss finishes and hardshell cases. The principal body-wood difference is solid mahogany on the E10D and solid rosewood on the E20D.

What not to do

Do not assume that the most expensive model is automatically the right one for every player. Neck feel, body response, setup and the individual instrument matter. Specification gets you to the right shortlist; playing the guitar tells you whether you actually like it.
